How to Create a Game Plan for Your Marketing in 2023

If you're like most service-based business owners, the end of the year is a time to reflect on what's working (and what's not) in your business and start making plans for the upcoming year. And if you're feeling a little lost when it comes to your marketing, I want to help you get started on the right foot! In this blog post, I'm sharing my top tips for creating a game plan for your marketing in 2023.

1. Know Your Why

Before you can start putting together a plan for your marketing, it's important that you take some time to reflect on your why. Why are you in business? Remember this question you probably asked when you first got started? It’s probably scribbled down on some random Google doc or notepad. Get it out and reflect on whether your goals are the same or how they have changed.

Remember to ask yourself, what are you passionate about? Have your passions changed? What problem(s) are you solving for your ideal client? When you know your why, it will be easier to create content and campaigns that align with your mission and attract your ideal client.

2. Set Some Goals

What do you want to achieve, firstly, in your business for 2023? It’s important to gain vision and clarity about where you see yourself and your business one year from now and work backwards to create an action plan to reach those goals. From there, we can begin to formulate more concrete goals for your online marketing.

What is your goal with your marketing in 2023?

Do you want to grow your list by X number of subscribers?

Do you want to launch a new product or service?

Do you want to double your revenue from last year?

Whatever it is, make sure that your goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). This will help you create a plan that actually gets results.

3. Identify Your Ideal Client

If you’ve been in business or are just starting, it’s important to continue to measure the identity of your ideal person and whether or not it has shifted as you’ve fine tuned your messaging. Sometimes he/her shifts as you get clear about who your offer is for. So, who are you (perhaps now) trying to reach with your marketing?

What are their demographics?

What are their interests?

What matters MOST to her/him? This is really where your service/product can be the solution to seeing that desire be realized!

When you know who your ideal client is, it will be easier to create content that resonates with them and speaks to their specific needs.

4. Determine Your Channels

You don’t need to be showing up everywhere, but you do need to be showing up somewhere. If your ideal person is not on Facebook, may I give you permission to stop showing up so much there? You may need to shift the volume of content and marketing you are doing on 1-2 channels because that’s where your ideal person is the most. So, where does your ideal client hang out online?

What channels do they use most often?

This is where you'll want to focus your efforts when it comes to promoting your content and getting your message in front of them. Some common channels include social media, email marketing, blogging, podcasting, YouTube or paid advertising.

5. Create Consistent Content

One of the best ways to attract and engage your ideal client is by creating consistent content that provides value and addresses their specific needs. At the time of this blog, Instagram carousel posts that help someone learn or achieve something through a series of slides are out performing other forms of content posts. Not only that, but the algorithm likes it.

This could be using anything from blog posts and social media updates to ebooks and email courses. The key is to be consistent with both the frequency of your content and the quality. Consistency will help you build trust with your audience and turn them into lifelong fans!

There's no time like the present to start planning for next year! By following these simple tips, you can set yourself up for success in 2023. Just remember to focus on knowing your why, setting SMART goals, identifying your ideal client, determining which channels they use most often, and creating consistent content that provides value. Do all of this, and I have no doubt that 2023 will be YOUR year!
